About
UCLA was established in 1919. Its campus is situated near Los Angeles International Airport, in the upscale Westwood area just south of Sunset Boulevard, making it one of the most prestigious locations in Los Angeles. Notable residential areas like Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica are just a short drive away. The campus features many beautiful buildings and landscapes, often used as backdrops for Hollywood films. It has over 174 buildings and a library with a collection of over 8 million volumes, ranking it 14th in the United States. Facilities include a performing arts center, computer multimedia classrooms, a sports arena, a swimming pool, tennis courts, soccer fields, and a rock-climbing wall, as well as a world-class hospital with 715 beds.
UCLA, the third University of California campus in the UC System, is one of the most competitive schools for admission in Southern California, alongside UC Berkeley. Both are renowned universities in the United States and have gradually become cradles for professionals in global business, high technology industries, film arts, and more.
As of 2023, its alumni, professors, and researchers have collectively earned 25 Nobel Prizes, 3 Fields Medals, and 5 Turing Awards. Their research achievements are substantial, and the university's sports performance is also outstanding, with a total record 270 Olympic medals (including 136 gold medals) won by 2021.
