UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) is ranked in the top 32 among all universities in the United States (data sourced from U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023). It holds a reputation as a public Ivy. It is one of the few universities in the United States that boasts a beautiful beachfront location and is internationally renowned for research in materials science, physics, oceanography, engineering, and other fields. The fifth chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara, was Henry Tzu-Yow Yang, who hails from Asia.

UCSB, founded in 1909, is a public research university located on a peninsula just north of Santa Barbara, 120 miles north of Los Angeles. It is a beautiful campus surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on both sides and features elegant Spanish-style red-tiled white buildings.
The city of Santa Barbara is a multicultural and artistic town situated between Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. It is conveniently located within a reasonable driving distance from each city. The campus includes theaters, sports facilities, libraries, an aquarium, a swimming pool, a music hall, a multicultural center, biotechnology laboratories, materials research laboratories, and 12 national research centers.
Its alumni, professors, and researchers have collectively earned 5 Nobel Prizes, and 29 were elected to the National Academy of Sciences, 27 were elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and 23 were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Notable UCSB alumni include American astronauts Joseph M. Acaba and Leroy Chiao; Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas; California State Assembly member Jared Huffman; Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas; film director, surfer, and renowned singer Jack Johnson; Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Todd Rogers; former U.S. diplomat Joseph C. Wilson; Major League Baseball stars Michael Young and Barry Zito.
