【Tips for Study Abroad in the U.S.】How to Apply for an F-1 Student Visa

U.S. F-1 Student Visa

Even though Berkeley International Education offers a comprehensive system for students to enter top schools in the U.S., including trainings for
international student visa interviews, students are still responsible and required to apply for the F-1 Student Visa.

When should I apply for the F-1 Student Visa?

365-Day Rule: Students are allowed to get the F-1 Student Visa within 365 days before the start date specified on the student's I-20 form.
30-Day Rule: Students must arrive in the United States within 30 days and no more than 30 days before the start date of their school program.

Apply for an F-1 Student Visa Step by Step

1) Get an admission from a school certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
2) Complete the non-immigrant visa electronic application form DS-160.
3) Fill out the SEVIS I-901 Fee form and make a payment.
4) Schedule an interview on the US Ambassy official website of your home country.
5) Attend the scheduled interview.
6) If the student's alegibility is approved aftert the interview, you can expect to receive your Student Visa approximately 1 to 2 weeks later.

When attending the visa interview, please prepare the following documents:

A valid passport.
A receipt confirming that they have paid all the fees.
Evidence of having ties in their home country that will make them return while their visa expires (for nonimmigrant visas).
For the exact documents that are required to bring to the interview, please carefully review the instructions given by the US Ambassy official website
after you successfully schedule an interview.
