About
UCSF was founded in 1864, originally as Toland Medical College. In 1873, it became a part of the UC System, serving as the medical school for UC Berkeley. In the 1950s, a system-wide reorganization within the UC System led to the gradual relocation of the school's facilities to the UCSF campus in San Francisco. In 1964, it officially became a research-oriented public medical school within the UC System, focusing exclusively on health and life sciences education and offering only graduate programs. UCSF is divided into five campuses, with four located in San Francisco and one in Fresno.

As of October 2020, UCSF has produced a total of 10 Nobel laureates among its alumni, faculty, and researchers.
